Nervous conditions, is a novel by Tsitsi Dangaremba, the novel depict women facing different problems. Each woman in the novel find her own way of dealing with her problem. The problems are related to patriarchy which contributes significantly to the oppression of women in Africa. According to patriarchal fundamentalism, the Universe was created and is ruled by a male god who created men in his image to worship him. Everything else is non-divine and belongs to the class of animals, including women, adapted from (rethinking a woman’s world Philip Higgs and Jane Smith p:92). Tambu did not like the idea of a white wedding for her parents and she ended up not attending the wedding. Unlike Tambu, Nyasha, Maiguru and Lucia, Ma’Shanga has excepted her fate as a servant to the men in her life, “This business of womanhood is a heavy burden”.

This is more of most women in rural Africa, they have accepted the servant hood of their man and are raising their children to be like them. Standing up against their husband is a disgrace to their family and that symbolize that their family did not raise them up very well.
