Title: Working to Overcome Obstacles

Subheading: Despite not having any of its own oil, Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) proved that they can overcome obstacles along their way to a bigger success through hard work. The state-owned trading company which was established by the Government of Nepal, has been the sole supplier and distributor of various petroleum products in the country since 1970 up to the present.

Bunker fuel, diesel fuel, jet fuel, gasoline, detergent, plastics, synthetic rubber, synthetic fibers, paint, fertilizers and pesticides are only few of the products which contain petroleum. This natural resource is valuable and needed so often that even Nepal isn’t

In an industry that is so competitive, any entity not strong enough to stand the obstacles and challenges present throughout the entire process won’t survive. However, Nepal stood up to the test. In 1970, the Government of Nepal established Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC). A state-owned company designed to handle the country’s oil supply and distribution. NOC’s headquarters is located in Kathmandu. It has five (5) regional offices, branch offices, depots, as well as aviation fuel depots with a total storage capacity of 71, 622 kiloliters (KL). I am a highway engineer. I finished my master’s degree in Construction Management in Nepal and my master’s degree in Highway Engineering in India. I work for more than 36 years in the Department of Roads (DoR). I’m in the highway expressway because I was the project manager. I retired from there last year. Then the government appointed me in the post.

Can you tell me about your management style?

I encourage teamwork. I want the staff to work as a team and I also train them in a very favorable working environment. On top of that, I listen to their problems so that I will know the right way to solve them. I told them I will fulfill my promises to them as well.

Is your current position given to you for a set amount of time? If so, will you continue or stop once it’s over?

It is appointed for four (4) years. After that, I will stop. I’m planning to work for two (2) years here and then maybe I’ll switch to another field. I would like to work in the hydro project in Nepal Electricity Corporation.
