a. Neovascular macular degeneration is a form of age-related macular degeneration (AMD). AMD is an irreversible severe loss of vision. It is also a major cause of blindness in geriatric patients. Degeneration is usually seen after the age of 60. Neovascular is a form of macular degeneration classified as wet and exudative. “The neovascular form includes accumulation of drusen, abnormal choroidal blood vessel growth, leakage of blood or serum, retinal detachment, fibrovascular scarring, loss of photoreceptors, and more severe loss of central vision” (Huether 336). Neovascular is referencing to the growth of new blood vessels in areas where they aren’t supposed to be. These new blood vessels are beginning their growth underneath the retina,
