Neonatal Nursing Career Paper

Neonatal nursing is a nurse that works with the newborn infants who are born with numerous of problems such as prematurity, birth defects, infection, etc. Neonatal nursing are surrounded with infants who have problems right after their birth, but they also care for the infants who experience long-term health issues regarding to their prematurity or other illness right after birth. Some of these nurses take care of the infants who are up to 2 years of age, or some care for the ones from the time of their birth until their released from the hospital. There are many career options open to neonatal nurses. Some start out as staff nurses those are the ones who care for the critically ill newborns. There are other roles for working with the newborns and that’s being a neonatal nurse practitioner. A nurse practitioner are nurses who work with physicians and the nursing staff to provide critical care for the infants who’s in the NICU. To be a neonatal nurse practitioner it requires extra schooling in a master’s or doctoral program, you will share your skills with numerous team member who care for a group of critically sick infants. You then will become skilled in things such as line placements, intubations, lumbar punctures, and newborn resuscitation. Neonatal nurse practitioners sometimes provide education to nurses, the house staff, and other members who are part of the neonatal team. To prepare to be a neonatal nurse the first step is that you have to be enrolled in an accredited school of nursing. To earn a baccalaureate degree you have to attend a college or university which takes up to 4 years to obtain. This is the route that permits your greatest flexibility in your career
