ANTM is a strong example of the commoditization of black women, such as Danielle, as objects of “racial transformations” that involve altering/changing the African American model into a white person. ANTM is also representative of the white hegemonic modeling industry, which presents the positive attributes of racial inclusion as part of a neoliberal agenda. However, Danielle must “perform” to the requirements of white male judges and producers that continually force her to behave more like a “white woman” in order to get the job. Hasinoff (2008) defines the “Neoliberal fantasy” of non-racism as a basis for presenting the veneer of racial tolerance for minorities within TV programming and in the modeling industry. However, this fantasy devolves due to the overt forms of “racial transformation;’ that white hegemonic producers impose on Danielle in ANTM. These values define the commoditization of negative racial stereotypes of southern black women, which Hasinoff (2008) defines as part of the capitalistic ideology of the modeling industry that exploits female minorities in this type of international labor. More so, Newman (2012) supports the international context of neoliberal values as part of the commoditization of TV programming that has become increasingly capitalistic in the exploitation of identity on a global scale. In this manner, an analysis of Hasinoff’s (2008) article reveals the Neoliberal fantasy od structural irrelevance in the false presentation of racial inclusion in ANTM, which expresses the overt forms of “racial transformation” of Danielle as an African American racial commodity for the white hegemonic modeling
