It is said that all of neoclassical buildings are influenced by the works of an Italian architect Andrea Palladio, he is known to be one of the most influential architects in Western architecture. His architectural works have been considered as inspiration by many for centuries. One of the similarities between Palladian architecture and neoclassical is the presence of a strong central axis and usually accentuated with a strong central element such as a dome. Although Palladianism and Neoclassicism are similar and most of the time concurrent, Palladianism is more specific and follows the rules of Andrea Palladio. The building’s façade is highly influenced by the Pantheon in the terms of the high pillars supporting the giant pressed dome on a square roof which I have embodied in my design because the Dome as an architectural symbol is interpreted in many ways and the one that struck with me the most is that, a dome or the pressed circle represented perfection, eternity, and the heavens. The square represented the earth, so when put one on top of the other it represented perfection and eternity on earth, and not only that it is proved that domes and specially pressed domes like the one in the sketch and the one on low library are interpreted as a symbol of power, unity and royalty, all of these reasons combined with its architectural benefits that a dome serves is exactly why I incorporated McKim’s design in my
