Nenny's Short Story: The Haunted House

Decent Essays
I used to think I fell behind, but look at me now. Long trips, lessons learned. I've learned to achieve things alone. Look at me now. My neighbors don't think I belong here. This house is dirty to them, but I don't feel like muddy water here. Nenny, along with my brothers have their own lives, and I have mine. There’s no chipping paint or stains. Bright blue walls, bright lighting, the nice house. The house others tell me I'm not good enough for. Today, in the sunlight I have something that is still small to others but, is a big deal to me. I wish I was able to reach out with open hands and be given more, however, that would cause me to be ridiculed again. I see my neighbors gaze at me through my window, as if they think I don't know how

As president of my high school's Key Club, it is my job to organize service activities for our members to volunteer in. One of these activities is the local haunted house sponsored by the Front Royal Little League. This fundraiser for the little league started when Mr. Bryan Binnix stepped in to save it from plummeting. Mr. Binnix discovered that the program wasn't making enough profits until his brother, Mr. Bobby Binnix, wanted to make a change, thus they proposed the idea of having an annual haunted house. Since the first year in 2012, the fundraiser has raised approximately $9,500.00.…

It was a dark, gloomy, summer evening, rain was in the forecast. I was on my usual bike strolls through the woods as I heard screams of women echoing through the mysterious forest. I went off my usually route to go check out what happened. The forest had trees the size of the Eiffel Tower and I started hearing creepy owl noises. As I got deeper and deeper to the center of the woods the noise intensified.…

5:00PM I stood in the heat patiently sighting for a silver Toyota with a bobble head dog sitting in the front. Here she is, pulling up ten steps away from where I stand. My journey is not uncommon, but like most, it is unique in its details of the various missteps and paths I have taken that either prevented me or tempered me to this point. As a matter a fact, when describing me, one could say I am a dreamer and for lack of a better analogy, always late to the party. Recently while working at my position for Gucci, a job I’m not too entirely fond of, I decided to make changes by going back to school. My given name is Reynaldo and my brother, Erich, who is 18 months younger than me were raised by a well-meaning, intelligent, career-military father, Amable, and a strong, independent, nurturing mother, Dinorah.…
