“Nelson Mandela’s Leadership”
Nelson Mandela was born on July 18th, 1918 in Mvezo, Transkei. According to the Nelson Mandela Foundation’s bibliography of Mandela, he grew up and completed a Bachelor of Arts degree at Fort Hare and his BA from University of South Africa. In 1962, Mandela “was charged with leaving the country without a permit and inciting workers to strike. He was convicted and sentenced to five years ' imprisonment which he began serving in the Pretoria Local Prison.” (Nelson Mandela Foundation N.D.) Years after getting out of prison, Mandela became South Africa’s first black president. Since he started his presidency, people have viewed Mandela as a great leader who played a very important role in South African history. Nelson Mandela is an example of an exceptional leader because he had a strong vision, he had firm values, and he knew how to lead others. Nelson Mandela had a strong vision for the country of South Africa. Ray Williams from Psychology Today said that “Mandela was a rare visionary who would see beyond the current struggles and pain.”(Williams 2013). He was a man who knew where he wanted to go and he had a plan to get there. “A solid vision creates an idealized future state for your organization that everyone is motivated to pursue wholeheartedly. A vision ensures people don’t just understand where the organization is headed, they understand why it’s moving in the stated direction, and they want to do everything they can to help it get there.…
