Mandela The famous African American that I will discuss in my essay is Nelson Mandela. Mandela was born on 18 July 1918 in the village of Mvezo in Umtata, then part of South Africa's Cape Province. South Africa is a multiethnic society encompassing a wide variety of cultures, languages, and religions.
