Before we learn about what Nelson Mandela did, we have to find out who he is first. There wasn’t much information on Nelson Mandela’s early life. “Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela was born in Transkei, South Africa on July 18, 1918. His father was Hendry Mphakanyiswa of the Tembu Tribe. Mandela himself was educated at University College of Fort Hare and the University of Witwatersrand where he studied law.”(Prix,1) Prix is just explaining Nelson’s early life. There’s not many things people will give their own life for. Nelson made his reason clear. “The one moment that will always stand out for me is what happened in the Rivonia trial, where he said the ideal [of a democratic and free society] is something he is willing to die for.”(Futshane,1) What Futshane was saying was that Nelson was ready to sacrifice his own life for the freedom and happiness of others.
