Nelson Mandela was born on July 18,1918 to a royal family in the South African village of Mvezo. After his father died Mandela was adopted by Jongintaba Dalindyebo, who brought him up to be fit for leadership. Mandela eventually became an activist and South African president who would hold office from 1918 to 2013. He served as a human rights activist who helped bring an end to apartheid in South Africa, and world wide. Sadly co-founder of the Umkhonto we Sizwe group would be sentenced to prison for over three decades. After the Afrikaner-dominated National Party, Mandela began to disagree with his countries political views.
