Nelson Mandela Hero

Throughout the ages there are men and woman who make a difference in the lives of various people. Whether it is a hundred, thousands, or even millions. One of the most influential people whoever lived and changed the face of not a country but a continent, would be, Nelson Mandela. Displaying courage, bravery, intellect, and a fight for the rights of millions, Nelson Mandela proves to be a quintessential modern day hero. Despite the fact that he had recently passed away, his legacy will live on for the people of Africa. He was horrified when he saw that black people of African descent had to carry around papers to work in certain areas, or drink in certain places, even eating, and dining was prohibited, for people other than the white minority at the time. When he joined the African National Congress, it showed his act or heroism. He took a stand and spoke out where no one else would. History channel states, “Mandela immersed himself in official talks to end white minority rule.” This displays, the use of his voice and how he initiated his own revolt against apartheid in a humane manner. Moreover, his patience and endeavor to slowly make progress, displayed that he had what it took to be a hero and a leader. He was patient, kind, yet ambitious enough to take a stand for what seemed right to him. Furthermore, Mandela sat through 27 years of jail time. This occurred when he was put on trial for treason. The government limited his freedom of speech, in which he could only talk to one person at a time. Once on trial he was convicted of communism and trying to make the people of South Africa, turn on the government, thus convicted of treason and anarchy. When he was in jail, he never escaped, nor did he make the attempt to do so. He knew one day he would be released, despite the consequences that resulted with him in jail, he never gave up. From growing up in a different culture, to fighting for racial segregation, to becoming the president, everything led up to the moment where he was seen as a savior in South Africa. He showed the courage of a hero, the valor and ambition of a hero, and prevailed in his goal to freedom. We have to imbue ourselves in our own surrounding and realize that amazing people can face the roughest of times and never give up hope.
