In 1895, at the age of 30 Nellie Bly married a man named Robert Seaman. Seaman was in his 70’s and was a millionaire industrialist that owned a company called Iron Clad Manufacturing. After their marriage Nellie Bly subsequently became, in full as Elizabeth Jane Cochrane Seaman. Around the time of their marriage Bly retired from journalism. By all accounts the two had a happy marriage until 1904 when Robert Seman unfortunately died. Upon his death Nellie Bly took command of her husband's company, Iron Clad Manufacturing. During her time at the company Nellie Bly did several things including obtaining a patent for the 50 gallon oil drum which has advanced into the one we use today and getting a patent for a novel milk carton.
