Neith (Nit, Net, Neit), also known as Mistress of bow, Ruler of arrows, Creator of the world, Mother of the sun, Protector of men and gods, is the goddess of war and weaving. The oldest Egyptian goddess, she “emerged from the primeval water to create the world.” Her symbol was two crossed arrows over a shield. For example, during a disagreement between the gods Seth and Horus for the throne of Egypt, they could not decide how to resolve this problem so they got in touch with Neith asking her advice. She recommended that Horus be made king and Seth be given two goddesses to please him. Every god (but Seth) agreed

Current research aids in the modification of the human ancestral tree and the analysis of various sites. One of the newest sites dealing with human evolution is the Rising Star cave system in South Africa, where a new species of human ancestors, Homo naledi, was discovered. Tyr is considered a lesser known deity in comparison to the other Norse gods, however, no less in significance in European culture. The Younger Edda states that warriors call on his name “to [sway] victory in war” (Snorre). There are other examples in the real world of reverence and recognition of the god Tyr. Towns in what we call Scandanavia were thought to be inspired by their devotion to this deity based on their names, such as Tyslundr or “Tyr’s Grove” and Tysnesoen or the “island of Tyr’s headland” (Turville-Petre). There are also correlations between the Germanic god Mars and Norse god Tyr.…

Beginning with a treaty between Elba and Abarsal the gods were often invoked in a way to ensure the treaty was honored. Lacking other ways to ensure the other side kept their side of the bargain, both sides would call on their gods to punish their enemies should they break the oaths outlined within the treaty. As it was the common belief that the gods of every nation were a very real thing, this was something taken very seriously by the signatories of these agreements, as explained by Podany, “Only the gods could play this role, and of course the gods of both parties needed to be called on. The gods were absolutely real to the ancients, and they believed in everyone’s gods, not just their own. If someone broke an oath he could expect the gods would punish him.”…
