One of the wall pictures is K boy and him flying a kite on a clothesline. Another is when he went to Jamaica with his brothers bearing him in the sand but now there all gone off living there own life's. The last important picture is him blowing bubbles It contradicts what we think of him. It says he drawn this because he is supporting nothing as nothing is supporting him. Art can take the form of many styles and still accurately depict the time or the subject that the artist had wanted to create. Although very different in style, both Ernest Withers’ “Sanitation Workers Assemble in front of Clayborn Temple for a Solidarity March, Memphis, TN, March 28, 1968” and Beauford Delaney’s “Can Fire in the Park” are authentic to the time, place, and artist. Withers’ art takes form as a gelatin silver print, a black and white photograph of several hundred black men gather with signs that say “I am a man”. Oyvind Fahlstrom’s 1965 Eddie (Sylvie’s Brother) in the Desert is just one of many different artworks that are on display in the new wing of the Art Institute of Chicago. Henry Tanner was an American painter and a pioneer of his era. Most notably, he is known for illustrating biblical scenes, but his artwork and career generated so much more for society. Out of all the artists depicted in the documentary, I’ve found the work of Cai Guo-Qiang to be the most interesting and skillful. I love how he uses gun powder, a material in which he calls “uncontrollable” and “destructive”, to create unique pieces of work. The art is in both in the inferno presentation and the left-over design on the paper. The way the paper yellows and the flow of lines in his work resembles a lot like the ancient Chinese artwork on scrolls. Instead of just drawing out and painting the art, Cai takes his time to set up the material and then takes the chance in how it comes out.…
The first time I ever painted with acrylics was in the waiting room of the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center. The room, although spacious, well-decorated, and illuminated by dancing rainbows of light from the stained glass windows, was Hades. Expressing emotions through art is often what we think of when it comes to creating a painting. For Farber and Dumontier, instead of working alone, they collaborated with each other to create little panels that includes their social views that reflects the society. Farber and Dumontier had their little Wednesday tradition of meeting up every Wednesday if possible, and have fun. Basically they put on music, have a couple of beers and just paint. Rockwell’s paintings are distributed all over the world. His paintings describe different people and situations. I recently viewed different paintings by Rockwell, although some had the some had the same message that was portrayed. The artists that have inspired me the most so far in my work are Anselm Kiefer, the Chapman brothers and Monet. I first came across Anselm Kiefer and Monet when doing the painting module of our project; although Kiefer is more of a mixed media artist; I had been aware of their work previously however. I came across the Chapman brothers in one of our art history lectures and thought it could be quite interesting to see how their landscapes compare to the more classical painted landscapes. Monet was one of the forefront artists during the impressionism movement in the late nineteenth century. His shirt is a forest green and navy blue plaid patterned long sleeve flannel. From looking at the painting it is clear to see that the man is seated at a table with his elbows rested on the surface. His two frail hands are folded together and pressed against his forehead, as if he is bowing his head in prayer. Throughout this course I have gained more of an appreciation for artwork and the artists that create them. I have also gained an appreciation for the people that try to define what art is in general or more specifically what makes good art. We have read great thinkers and their philosophies on this, and the fact that even people of such great intelligence can disagree on the subject proves how challenging it can be. By reading the opinions of these great thinkers, and by discussing their thought with our class, I feel I am in a much better place as to define what makes good art myself. I define art as anything created by someone that inspires another to appreciation.…
