Neil Gaiman Coraline

Coraline by Neil Gaiman is about a young girl named Coraline Jones discovering a door to her other life, other parents, and other struggles.I believe this book was excellent because the author Neil Gaiman,really went into detail about Coraline as a character. He wrote about her surroundings and the new things she discovers behind the door often describing every step she takes.Coraline Jones does not narrate the story but oddly enough, her thoughts and feelings are the only one’s shared throughout the story.In the book the conflict is presented when Coraline ventures through the door and soon after she is not able to escape the dimension she has entered.She gets trapped in the dimension and is faced with the seemingly good other parents real …show more content…
Later, Coraline ventured through the door and discovered she had another mother who referred to herself as “The Other Mother” and she also met”The Other Father”. The land behind the door was exotic,fun, almost too good to be true.She went to sleep in the land behind the door and woke up to her regular house and regular parents. After visiting the door another night, Coraline’s “Other Mother” tries to convince her to sew buttons on her eyes so she can live in the other world forever.Coraline declines and tries to get back to her parents through the door but something is not right.She doesn't’t have a key.The “Other Mother” took the key and did not give it back.Coraline must fight her mother and try and see her parents again which was a good twist. That women was the same women who helped Coraline receive a doll, almost identical to her.Coraline had learned many things through her experiences One of the things she learned and conveyed to the readers was “Appreciate what you have and always have courage.”One thing that really stood out in this book were the characters. The characters in the story were eccentric, exciting, strang and overall unique. The reason I say this is because Most characters in story books are very cheerful and optimistic, but Coraline isn’t. She seems to want to have a peek behind the “curtain” of life plus, she is always wanting to find more and exploring.For example coraline says on page seven,“...I want to carry on exploring.” Coraline's characters are overall different but in a good way. Another thing that really stands out about the book is how much it reminds me of another book. This stands out to me since This book is somewhat similar to Alice in Wonderland which is a book that is very original and does not have many books that are similar.Coraline wanted to go see what was behind the door.
