By high school, I had become set on my aspirations to study medicine and become a doctor. My mind became engaged and excited to learn about the human body and all of our systems. I took several science AP classes that allowed me to indulge in captivating information while affirming the ambitions of my future. I also volunteered at the same hospital for three years because I loved the opportunity to help people in a medical setting while working with other teens with similar mindsets. However, it was not the desire to learn about the human body that fostered my love for learning. A void that surrounds us and grows infinitely is what pushed me to question everything and seek out the answers.

From a young age, learning about space was very exciting. In elementary school, we had a field trip where we had a sleepover at the science museum. Suddenly, the ceiling started to twinkle as the different constellations began to take form and I remember feeling as if I was floating amongst the stars. Around age fifteen, I started watching the show, “Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey.” Neil deGrasse Tyson’s style of teaching about the cosmos allowed a young teenager like me to

It is frightening, yet inspiring to know that humans are extremely microscopic compared to everything in the universe. Outer space reminds me to see things in perspective and just to simply be a better human being. Planet Earth’s proximity to the moon and rotation around sun creates such a delicate balance that allows human life to thrive and seasons to cycle. This rarity makes me appreciate our finite time on Earth and inspires me to do something more than just exist. Whenever I feel overwhelmed about school, grades, college, or anything, I remind myself that I just need some

This episode of Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey, Neil deGrasse states that “this adventure is made possible by generations of searches strictly adhering to a simple set of rules: test ideas by experiment and observation, build on those ideas that pass the test, reject the ones that fail, follow the evidence and see where it leads, and question everything. “ The universe is 13.8 billion years old. In Neil DeGrasse Tyson’s person narrative “Cosmic Perspective,” he illustrates to a diverse audience that humans are not insignificant to the universe, but a link in a never-ending chain; that chain being the cosmos. This in mind, one is called to question how essays like “In the Minimum Wage Debate, Both Sides Make Valid Points” and “Speaking While Female” should, or could, be interpreted and perceived through the cosmic perspective. To do so, one must have and understanding, no matter how small, of what Tyson was explaining. Tyson’s “Cosmic Perspective” was written to recondition how a phycologist perceived Tyson’s space show, “Passport to the Universe”. The phycologist said that he was experiencing “dramatic feelings of smallness,” making…
