Neil Armstrong began his career at NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) as well as NACA (National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics) in Ohio. He first joined NACA in 1955, and was first assigned to be in Cleveland to work with the NACA Lewis Research Center (now NASA Glenn Research Center). When he was driving from Cleveland to southern California, he stopped by northern Wisconsin, where he asked Shearon to marry him and go with him to California. In January 1956, Neil and Janet were married, and had a former forest ranger’s cabin in the San Gabriel Mountains. He became an engineer, astronaut, test pilot, and an administrator for NASA and NACA for about 17 years. During the 17 years, Neil had flown over 200 different aircraft
