Social media has changed the way the world views communication. In ten seconds, the whole world has the power to watch a video or like a picture. Social media is known for all the great things it has done but what about the negative things coming from it? People see a faster way to communicate that anyone can use even those who we forget, such as criminals or predators. Few realize how dangerous social media truly is. Even though communications and businesses have bettered from social media, crimes, teens, and identity theft have become increasing problems. Crimes have become a large part of the negatives of social media. There are whole television series based on cybercrimes. Online problems have started to take on new forms. Many don’t know how much people actually see. Bad information getting out has cost many their job interviews and jobs (Gray 33). If one is photographed in a photo with alcohol or drugs, even though they may have done nothing wrong, disciplinary actions are taken just as if they had (Gray 33). Photos or messages teens are not aware about themselves in can cost more than a rumor or two at school. Schools offer many internet safety programs but many students are bored with them or feel as if they are already safe. The students do not take time to learn and understand safety rules (Gray 32). Some companies spend 1 to 2 hours working on post to post to their social media accounts when they could be working on more important tasks (McCrea 74). The posts have to be well thought out and cannot just be posting at random or whatever they want (McCrea 76). Business owners do not personally know their audiences and need regular scheduling to keep up with their social media accounts (McCrea 76). Newer companies are not aware that only one person should be in charge of their sites to make sure there is no contradicting information is posted. Many do not realize that employees can post contradicting information if too many employees are working on their posts while they could be doing real work for the company (Bednar 55). While social media is being used as a marketing ad, it is still a new way to advertise and is in its early stages (McCrea 75).Many businesses are finding small audiences and can have a hard timing finding any audience.
