Asgn. – Reinforcement
Positive Reinforcement
Positive reinforcement is the presentation of something that causes and encourages a given response, so that the response will happen more often.
Example:
Professor Smith realized that the online class’ exam average increased after she made videos of her in class lecture exam reviews available. She continued to post lecture videos for each exam review.
Negative Reinforcement
Negative reinforcement is the removal of something that causes and encourages a given response, so that the response will happen more often.
Example:
While babysitting for the Miller family, Carlie noticed that when she turned off the television at 8pm to study, …show more content…
This time, he refrained and went to the cookie jar instead.
Negative Punishment
Negative Punishment is the removal of something that causes and encourages a given response, so that the response will happen less often.
Example
The last time Michael received a grade of “C” on his report card, his mother grounded him from playing his Xbox for a month. He made sure to spend more time studying this time around & made a grade of nothing less than a “B” in all of his classes.
Fixed - Ratio Reinforcement Schedule
In a fixed-ratio schedule, reinforcement happens after a certain number of actions.
Example:
All salesmen at Lucky’s Auto dealership earn a 30% bonus for every 4 cars he or she sells.
Variable - Ratio Reinforcement Schedule
In a variable – ratio schedule, reinforcement happens after a certain average total of responses.
Example:
In a “rock, paper, scissors” game, the main winner is determined after one person wins a total of 2 out of 3 games.
Fixed – Interval Reinforcement Schedule
In a fixed – interval schedule, reinforcement happens after a certain period of time has passed.
