A Negative Feeling on the Marine Corps
Throughout history, the military has been a subject of extreme speculation. Because of the inability to know exactly what is going on in a combat conflict, many are left with opinions and ideas about what may be going on. I grew up in a very patriotic family, who always showed respect and gratitude to the military. In result I wanted to join the force and earn that respect for myself. After joining the corps I quickly learned that what my parents had felt, and really what most of the public had felt about the Marine Corps was absolutely incorrect. I was effected by a bias toward the good things of the Marine Corps by not only my parents, but the general American public through heart felt songs, personal

I was never told of the hardships, the hazing, or the games they play to break you down and to degrade you. I was only told of the great respect for the soldiers and for their sacrifice. While it is true, about the great things actually being in the corps, they are mixed with some of the bad as well. The corps has a lot of good mixed with a lot of bad creating an even ground and a possibility for many different outcomes and feelings. Many people turned out the way I did, they felt the corps was an awful place to be and all they wanted to do was leave. But others felt empowered by the corps, they felt the corps gave them a purpose and it made them a better person. This multitude of different out comes leads to even more of a bias, because I had a bad experience now I am negatively biased towards the corps. The truth is that the real corps is somewhere in the middle. Join the corps was definitely one of the most impactful decisions of my life, and the end result is a favorable one indeed, yet I am still baffled by the constant fact that if I had not be effected by a multitude of biased opinions I may have never joined the corps and my life would have been drastically different from how it is

This was no surprise due to the scare that they would fail in another war. What makes Donaldson’s experience interesting is that the perspective is that of a Marine and not the common citizen. Donaldson saw first hand how underprivileged other countries were and he in fact earned a new sense of appreciation and love for his country. Joining the military, Donaldson now had a job that required great patriotism and dedication to America, or someone else’s life could be endangered.…

She was one of the girliest girls I knew since grade school, with her stylish culottes and pink garments of all different shades for all different occasions. She was the epitome of a mixture between pure innocence and quirk that boldly took her rightful place in the middle of my heart. Mary Anne wasn’t just all of that; she was also my affectionate girlfriend, my warm-hearted best friend who I could talk about anything with, from the most trivial things to the very meaning of our whole existence. At the time, all I could feel was the absolute joy that I got from spending my time with her. We had our entire happiness in the future planned out, a dream wedding and all, but maybe that was the reason why I wouldn’t have ever imagined that I would be feeling so lost and empty just a few years later, alone and missing a part of myself.…

From growing up in a military family, I have become very resilient and I adapt really well to change. With my surroundings changing all the time, I have to be able to quickly adapt to my new setting and find ways to fit in as quickly as possible. I have been to about twelve different schools so far, and I have lived in about eight different houses. When I live on a military base, change is constant, even if it is not my own family experiencing the orders to move that year. The houses around me fill and empty all the time with new people, and some of the military dominant schools I have been to have the same problem.…

Before a Citizen decides to join the U.S. Army they have a preconceived notion of what an Army soldier is, what an Army soldier represents, and how life as a United States Army Soldier will be like. They contemplate how their friends, family, and the public will perceive them when they wear the uniform. Past and present Army leaders have worked diligently to form and maintain an Army image of disciplined, well trained, and true professional soldiers. Over the past 15 years, this outstanding image of Army Soldiers has dwindled to an image of soft, undisciplined, and lazy soldiers who care more about themselves and less about what it means to wear the uniform. During my last combat tour my experiences helped myself define the direction I wanted to take, both in the military and eventually when I transition back into the civilian world. In 2009 I was running my own Information Technology Company and doing quite well financially, but I felt something was missing.…
