An example of a negative externality consumption; would be the usage of cell phones in theaters and even plays. People pay money to go into a large dark room, where they will sit down and enjoy a plot. Yet, the moment of suspense and adrenaline one feels when the plot thickens, gets ruined by the constant *Bing* *tweet tweet* and even worse, the people who have inappropriate music as their ring tones. You go in expecting a good time, only to have it ruined by someone else who should have turned off their phone or kept it in silent. Which still generates even more negative externality, due to the screens brightness illuminating the dark room from a single point and affecting even more the people a seat away. The people went in demanding, a good time, enjoyment. But due to the cellphones interrupting the movies or plays, it would cause a shift on the demand curve to go down. (Refer to figure 1) Due to the loss of show enjoyment. Creating a dead space, which would be the amount of enjoyment loss. A possible way to internalize it, would be to charge extra money for people to be allowed to use their phones in the theaters. For example, as taken from an article by Denver post. “Austin Rasnic was found safe with the help of a tip received because of the alert, police said on Twitter at 9:53 p.m.” A child, Austin Rasnic, was kidnapped and thanks to a local bystander who witnessed it, was able to report it.
