What is social media? Social media is a way for people from around the world to communicate with each other without ever seeing each other face to face . It’s way to express our feelings without the fear of public humiliation. This new fad has become a popular invention that can be used to many advantages or disadvantages. Some of the advantages are that it’s a way to hold a social relationship with someone that you may not have frequent contact with such as family, friends, or people that start out as strangers but with time you develop a strong bond with. Even though there are many pluses to this wonderful advantage there are those who take advantage of it to “harm” others. From our point of view we say and try to proclaim that we should just be ourselves, but it’s very easy to say things that we normally wouldn’t say if it was a face to face conversation. It’s very easy to portray someone that we are not, especially if we have tools that can help us shape ourselves into the perfect person. Social media is like a mirror, they reflect the user, but the images are not always real.
Like we had said, social media can be a good thing, but also a bad thing because we feel as it has taken away so much from our traditional interpersonal communication between people. People rather text someone rather than calling, look something up rather than asking, commenting on a post rather than telling someone their thoughts directly. So although we have negatives ands positives things to say it ultimately depends on how we use it. The purpose behind it and the meaning that we hold. All in all it should be a way to connect and meet others and learn from others’ tradition, cultures, and ways of life.
If we focus on the visual parts and try to beautify ourselves, we will become the Barbie and Ken or social media, where we all have a perfect life and no one had problems in life, when in reality no one is
