What was once thought of as mere distractions, this relatively new entertainment medium has captured the world by storm and have quickly become one of the most prominent industries in the world. Do you know how much revenue is generated from the video game industry in Malaysia? 355 million US dollars in earnings was from 2017 alone and is expected to grow by 7.8% every year according to Malaysia Statista Forecast. It has been constantly debated that video games have negative effects such as addiction, increased aggression, and various health concerns such as repetitive strain injuries and obesity. These purported negative effects tend to get far more media coverage than the positives. However, numerous research that has been conducted since the era of mainframe computer games shows that video games can be used for educational and therapeutic uses. This shows that video games, in addition to their entertainment value, have great educational potential. Video game’s a very interactive medium and can engage and motivate the user to improve on specific skills. Although there are many negative implications surrounding video games, there are many beneficial effects to be had from playing video games such as improving brain functions, treating certain medical conditions
