The Effects of Using Smartphones Approximately, 4.8 million people are likely to use their smartphones according to statistics released in 2016 by “The Smartphone Take Over” (year). Nowadays, many people are using smartphones because they help them to communicate with others by sending emails or chatting with them. Also, they are considered the best source of entertainment and news these days. Due to their complicated system, smartphones are less used by adults and widely used among the younger generation. However, smartphone use must be limited since it has many negative effects which are serious addiction, physical and psychological health problems. In the article “Healthy Hearing”, Lisa Packer (2015) writes that personal electronic devices may cause physical and mental health problems. One of the negative effects is vision problems. For example, people spend long hours closely staring at the screen of mobile phones to text other people or browse the social media and websites. This results in fatigue or straining of the eyes focusing on the small screen and reading small letters. This is not solely caused by mobile phone use, it also happens after spending long time facing the computer screen. Moreover, that extended use can dry the eyes, cause pain and eventually impair vision or lead to being short-sighted. Another negative effect is on the hearing ability. Most people use smartphones to listen to music by headphones especially if the volume of the music is high and people listen to it for a long period of time. As a result, those users are exposed to the gradual loss of their hearing. Most people use their mobile phones and keep them nearby all the time, particularly teenagers, for different purposes. People have turned into robot-like individuals who are always accompanied by their smartphones while studying, sleeping or even eating to respond to texts or calls. Thus, they have become indulged in a virtual world that secluded them from the real society. Therefore, stress takes over their lives since they become easily irritated and unable to handle simple tasks. Further, they could end up being antisocial shunning even close people like family members. In the article “Men’s Health”, David Greenfield said that the smartphones make us feel that we are obliged to check messages, calls and e-mails more than that. So, smart devices invasion into people’s lives has greatly endangered their psychological health and made them find difficulties belonging to their society. In conclusion, smartphone use must be restricted because it has many passive impact which are intemperance, bodily and psychic health issues. Mobile phones addiction can lead people to spend their life only using their mobile phones without doing something benefit and it can be also, harming vision after spending a long period of time staring in smartphone.
