Too Much T.V. is Bad for A Child’s Development Today in the United States 98% of all households, have at least one T.V. in their home (Facts and T.V. Statistics.) With technology on the rise, media and video are now accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Tablets, television, computers, and cell phones are just a few examples of the technology we have that make screen viewing easily available. Parents are allowing children as early as 6 months of age, to watch television; exposing their young minds to the negative effects of television. We can also educate families in taking the right steps to prevent or at least deter any negative impacts on children development. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, media education can help kids become less susceptible to the bad effect of watching T.V. The American Academy of Pediatrics also provide a link to help families in creating a personalized media plan that works for them and their families. When used with these guidelines, you can provide your children with a positive learning experience for children who watch T.V. Remember, as a parent you are determining your child’s future. What they watch, at what age they watch it, and how long they watch it for is solely up to you. But if we can avoid the negative effects children can have on their development, by educating ourselves on what responsible viewing habits are, we can instill positive habits in our children.
