One of the many ways the Berlin Wall had a negative effect was because Germans were separated from their families. East Germany created applications for their citizens to see their families, but it discouraged many families to visit their families because it was very stressing and it was a lot of money. Many of the East Germans lost their jobs. Without their jobs they had no money, and without money there was no food. That is how they could not pay the fees to visit their families. Finally an announcement came out saying that their were going to create travel permits. This announcement made east Germans furious. On the evening of November 9, 1989 East Germany tried to defuse tension by making travel permits easier to obtain. The announcement brought many of east Berliners to the border.
