In today’s society the way we connect with each other has changed immensely. The internet has progressed to become one of the main key factors of life. It has not only changed the way we associate with one another, but the way we think as well. It has surrounded the world with many different social media sites, allowing society to keep in touch with each other, share pictures, thoughts, and even their own locations. It has the ability to allow citizens to keep updates on each other’s daily lives, as well as give society the opportunity to talk to whoever they want when they want. This way social media can be looked at as both a blessing and a curse. While it can be a very beneficial tool that allows people to keep in touch with friends and family, social media can also have negative impacts on relationships. The easy access of communication with one another, may lead into “temptation and addiction of contacting a past love or crush” (Dockterman). This is because social media has allowed others to contact each other as easily as a direct message. When continuously seeing pictures of someone on social media they are constantly being reminded of that person, which can result in one being drawn to create some type of bond with that individual. The temptation is mostly created by noticing and using the simple feature of direct messaging provided by social media, that enables any user to get in touch immediately with another user. Considering being in an interrelation, associating with other individuals through social media may cause problems. These problems may result in losing trust in the relationship, which is one of the primary components that holds the bond of two people together. If trust is lost, the relationship will be broken. As a result, arguments can easily become created from social media through the simplest activities, such as a friend request from an ex, contacting other people, and even liking/ favoring too many posts.
