I have chosen the topic that social networking websites may have either a positive or negative impact on interpersonal relationships. I will be looking into the strengths and weaknesses of social networking, then come to a conclusion to whether it has a positive or negative impact on these relationships. I personally believe that social networking has negative affects on interpersonal relationships and I think this because people tend to stop interacting with other when using social media and also people will drift from others when they start to get addicted to something, for example Facebook. I believe that these are the biggest positives of social media but negative effects always are involved. The danger of communication over social media is privacy exposure, meaning when things are posted on social media you cannot be positive that it is just being sent to friends or being seen by people you know. Social media also has major effects on someone’s emotions and psychology, this is because on social media people are posting things which is their own opinion and if you are not agreeing and is offensive to you, this can affect you emotionally and will make you feel angry, hostile and will start to irritate you. Another example is that, people post photos and memories of their life, family and friends; this could lead to other people being jealous, envy and also upset which can result in people getting depressed and lonely which causes psychological and emotional upset. Rte News Dr Graham, Consultant psychiatrist from University of Chicago states, “They start to miss or avoid doing the necessary things in life, even at a fundamental level of self-care. They delay eating or avoid eating or drinking, delay sleep, miss meetings or delay getting into work or college.” This supports my point as I believe that social media is really having an impact on how people are living their
