Have you ever wondered what everybody has in common? The whole society consists of discrimination and violence against one another, but what makes the whole society agree on? Modern technology based around the internet has caught everyone’s attention. The internet has been skyrocketing in the countries since the mid 1980s when the internet was created (Silicon Republic). Because the internet was found, technology, computers, and cell phones, started increasing dramatically. Young adults, teenagers, and even kids have been glued to their technology. Children on average stare at the television around thirty hours, teens on average send 30 texts per day, and Facebook, instagram, and snapchat are the most frequently used social media sites (TV …show more content…
Being the twenty-fourth century, schools are relying on more technology because they are using it for e-learning, powerpoint, and research, but studies show that using more technology decreases math and reading tests scores. For example, Green, a writer said “According to a study out of the University of Chicago, California’s technology rollout in the late 1990s extended Internet access with the result being no impact on learning outcomes. At all.” Also, “Another study from the Urban Institute studied the same type of tech rollout in North Carolina and found ‘modest but statistically significant and persistent negative impacts on student math and reading test scores.’” Technology is taking over students ' lives because children are growing up with technology. They now believe that technology is all they need in order to learn. Now, students will not pay any attention when teachers are trying to teach the students by using a book. Also, students are way too worried about making sure they are caught up on their social media. If students get a project online, they tend to spend two times more on it because social media is distracting them. Although technology is decreasing education, some believe that technology is helping the education world because of how technology broadens the variety of learning. Technology can affect your sleeping schedule due to the bright lights. Staring at the screen could strain your eyes, making your eyes very blurry, and sometimes dry your eyes up. Our brains believes that it is still morning when you are staring at a screen during the night (Horath). The brain believes this because during the night the phone is too bright the light. The eyes dilate from dark to light consistently making the eyes think it’s day time. Exposure to laptops, phones, and ipods can cause serious disorders in the long run. You could get diabetes, autism, and brain tumors (Silverstone). The most common one is headaches. When you are on the your electronics too much, you are more vulnerable to get headaches due to your eye strain from staring at the screen. Also, grabbing for your phone 24/7 could cause symptoms that lead up to tendonitis. Adam Gazzaley, a neuroscientist at the University of California, San Francisco saids "We are exposing our brains to an environment and asking them to do things we weren’t necessarily evolved to do (Holmes)." The quotes means that we are rewiring our minds to learn through only technology. Our minds do not understand technology and how it works but we are completely changing our minds to only think
