People in the military are being told they cannot serve and being honorably discharged, and this is taking a toll on their mental health. The ban is being enacted due to the medical costs that comes with transition surgerys and hormones. This is said to be a problem even with the military’s annual health-care budget at is set at $48 billion a year (Gillespie, 2017).

By the time he was deployed he looked and sounded masculine (LaPook, 2015). He was stationed in a male barrack at base after and after few years, Wilson was due for a promotion. He only knew he was transgender while skimming the paperwork he received when Wilson got assigned there. He had Wilson meet him and told him he needed to know exactly ‘what’ he was. (LaPook, 2015).
