Genetically Modified Foods Impact Human Health and Environment Are genetically modified foods a blessing or a curse? This is one of the major questions and concerns in the contemporary society given that over 5 million Americans suffer from eating disorders. While food is a vital component of the social fabric, it sometimes become a major source of anxiety and stress for anyone suffering from eating disorders. The impact of genetically modified foods on human health and environment is a major concern in light of the need to promote healthy eating and prevent diseases emerging from consumption of unhealthy foods. The potential hazards associated with these organisms differ based on the type of organism being modified and its targeted application or use. The numerous concerns and issues surrounding GMOs, particularly genetically modified foods is attributed to their likelihood to generate negative impacts on human health and the environment. Genetically modified organisms that could have direct effects on human health are basically products that can enter the human food supply, particularly through genetically modified foods. The need to ensure safety and protection of human health is the main reason that genetically modified plants are the only types of products that have been endorsed for human consumption in the United States.
