In this video we will focus on providing information pertaining to the adverse effects caused by spanking, the prevalence of spanking in America, other forms of discipline without the use of spanking or corporal punishment, and the effectiveness of using other forms of discipline over the use of physical punishment. This campaign will serve as both a method for prevention of spanking and an intervention for those who already spank their children. Research has shown that public awareness campaigns can motivate changes in a number of ways including: joining of coalitions, posting materials in the community and in media, donation of funds, support of policy change to support victims, or being informed in order for an individual to make wiser choices when it comes to disciplining their child (FSU, 2012). The aims of our product is to strategically reach our target population and communicate our message to that group. We asked a group of students questions related to spanking and discipline that led them to critically debate and discuss the issues related to spanking. We also used this method to have our interviewees think about alternative punishments outside of spanking. Another method we used in our video was providing quantitative and qualitative research to support our claims that spanking can have more negative outcomes than positive. We provided examples of research and studies that showed correlations between people who had been spanked and negative outcomes. Our intention is to get the video viewers to be aware of what the research shows and to get them to think critically about spanking and what methods may be better for punishment besides
