For example with the Dakota Access Pipeline the people who were against the protests went and started a riot and they said the only reason they wet the people was because they started to burn the pathway and the nonviolent protesters only started the fires to keep warm (http://www.aljazeera.com/news/2016/11/protesters-clash-police-dakota-access-pipeline-161121060641166.html). Civil disobedience can also cost you to get hurt or get arrested if the protest gets violent. Also it could get people to think that you do not like the free society you live in because you are protesting against something they came up with.
