First of all, Black Lives matter has had a very large impact of music, specifically hip-hop and R&B. Rapper Jay-Z and his wife Beyonce paid for the bail of many protesters in Baltimore. At a Black Lives Matter conference in Cleveland, police began responding to an alleged incident of public intoxication, using pepper spray and handcuffs. The protesters then began chanting the refrain from Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp A Butterfly. They were chanting “We gon’ be alright! We gon’ be alright!” (Billet). The well-known online magazine The Rolling Stone touted Lamar’s Alright as the anthem of the Black Lives Matter Movement (Tate). Many activists for Black Lives Matter have shown up at rallies for presidential candidates. For example, at one of Donald Trump’s rallies, one Black Lives Matter protester interrupted Trump’s speech. A half-dozen of the Trump supporters at the rally proceeded to attack the supporter. Trump then responded that the protester “should have been roughed up,” (Diamond). There have also been reports of racial slurs at Trump rallies (McCrummen). Also, the movement attempted to add a debate “focusing exclusively on issues affecting black people,” (Eligon).
