“ I just want to be the skinny girl, who wins everything”(Clara). A nine year old told me this without a moment 's hesitation when I asked why she wasn 't eating all of her food. At nine years old a little girl was risking her health to be “skinny”. I was shocked and decided to sit down and take the time to explain the difference between the skinny and fit people both physically and mentally all of which affect those people 's health where they know it or not. To be skinny has nothing to do with being healthy, it only has to do with the image you have of your body. Body image is a subjective picture of yourself it is not always what your body truly is, also known as negative body image. A negative body image is a distorted perception of your …show more content…
A person has positive body image by accepting one’s self and understands that the extremes are life limiting are some of the same people who see fit as the new reality. A fit body is different for all body types even though they all result in healthy living you still might be technically overweight. Fitness starts with two simple things diet and exercise. Don’t take this the wrong way and think I am telling you to go on a diet because I am not. I am saying though clean eating can help you develop a proper healthy fitness while avoiding the negative effect of extremes some people take to become skinny. “Scientists found that a higher intake of fruits and veggies resulted in more energy, calm, and greater feelings of overall happiness.”(news.health.com). Eating right even makes you love yourself more resulting in the development of the positive body image. Now fitness is a little harder than you think and is explained as followed, ““Sedentary people who are overweight and start exercising do lose weight,” notes Kelly Brownell, Ph.D., director of the Yale Center for Eating and Weight Disorders in New Haven, Conn. “But they don’t have to get thin in order to be much healthier.” Indeed, exercise combined with even a small weight loss, such as 7-10% of body weight, dramatically reduces the risk of Type 2 diabetes, hypertension and other chronic
