In most cultures, a conflict has negative connotations because it is a contrast to the notion that we should be nice and friendly to people and that everyone should get along. A conflict is a situation when the needs, interests, goals or values of involved parties interfere with one another. It is important to acknowledge that a conflict is a difficult and controversial topic but it is also an important aspect of the workplace.
Although many people understand mentally the value of conflict, they still feel uncomfortable when confronted by it or facing it. Their discomfort may result from not understanding the conflict process or cause as well as from a lack of training in how to handle interpersonal confrontations effectively.
