The Egyptians would view my attraction for attending college as a change, the Egyptians did not appreciate change. Being an Egyptian is plentiful, even the slaves participate in this delight, they would say there is no need to further my studies for unnecessary knowledge. The pharos, considering he is a god in his own perspective would probably view my decision as going against him in some way. For example, “Hail, Nefer-Tem, who comes forth from Het-ka-Ptah, I have wronged none, I have done no evil. Hail, Tem-Sepu, who comest forth from Tetu, I have not worked witchcraft against the king.” These codes from the Negative Confession are just to prove that anything suspicious would be going against god or the pharos therefore meaning death for

This book is about a young lady who looks under her mother’s bed in search of laundry, and finds a book called “A Crimson Kiss”. Regardless of what college I attend, I will be tested with drugs, alcohol, and turning away from my goal of being successful. As I have said before, dozens of hard assignments and tests face me in the future. The stress of this may coax me into forgetting my purpose with negative methods such as drugs and alcohol. Odysseus faced similar tribulations at the land of Lotus Eaters.…

Given our egocentric and appetitive nature, human beings inherently seek lifestyles that satisfy bodily desires. According to Saint Augustine’s Confessions, the importance of the encounter with the drunken beggar in Milan is to highlight that seeking bodily desires, a derivative of sin, inevitably constitutes desolation that can only be resolved through seeking God’s grace. Boiling in a state of anxiety and unhappiness as a result of his materialistic desires, Augustine finds himself faced with yet another bodily desire to please others--delivering a eulogy to the emperor. Contemplating his misery as he passes the streets of Milan with his friends, his attention is captured by the glimpse of a drunken beggar. Laughing and joking, the beggar…

The article “Inside Interrogation: The Lie, The Bluff, and False Confessions”, published by Jennifer Perillo, and Saul Kassin, discusses situations and potential contributors that can result in false confessions. Perillo and Kassin focus on what are called situational pressures, the use of false evidence, including the use of a fake witness, or false documented proof of the crime happening-also known as a bluff tactic- as risk factors for why people falsely confess to crimes they did not commit (Perillo & Kassin, 2010). The use of this evidence can result in a false confession through one of two ways: the false evidence could cause a suspect to begin to internally believe that they had committed the crime, or a suspect could believe that if they falsely confess now, they will later be proved to be innocent through the evidence. Perillo and Kassin ran three experiments that dealt with how a…

In Augustine’s Confessions, Augustine presents his mother as the perfect model of a devout Christian. From the moment Augustine is born, she assumes a strong involvement in her son’s life in order to ensure his conversion to Christianity. However, this heavy involvement works against her at times. Although Augustine may portray Monica as a pious model of faith on the surface, through the passion she expresses for her son’s salvation, he also notes certain flaws stemming from that passionate care, namely her underlying obsession to see him achieve worldly success, ultimately revealing Monica to occasionally serve as an obstacle inhibiting Augustine’s spiritual enlightenment.…

Background: False confessions are a major issue in our criminal justice system. Organizations like the Innocence Project have shown that 20% of the people they exonerate falsely confessed. Because of that, Russano, Meissner, Narchet and Kassin strived to identify what factors and circumstances increase the likelihood of a false confession. Through Kassin and McNall research, maximization and minimization were categorized as interrogation methods (1991). Russano, Meissner, Narchet and Kassin have decided to study both minimization and how deal making affects false confessions.…

The Incomplete Characterization of Motives In Confessions, Augustine stated that the motive behind all actions was lust of different types. He divided lust into three categories: lust for domination, lust of the eyes, and lust for sensuality. Augustine defined lust for domination as the desire to control people or properties. Lust of the eyes was the desire to satiate the senses: sight, smell, taste, touch, and hearing.…

There was saying that was continually repeated to me throughout my childhood within educational and religious institutions I had attended, “Confession is good for the soul” they would say its sets you free mentally and spiritually. Confession is seen as a way to relieve the burden of guilt that binds us in fear of the consequences that someone will figure it what we did resulting in judgement and possibly betrayal. Our consciousness brings about the platform of turning ourselves in through confession, showing that we have been conditionally disciplined in traditional morals and rules presented in society. In this paper I will argue how we are our members of a confessing society in a natural sense and in the use of technology though disciplinary…
