10 January 2018 Disadvantages of Social Media Social media is websites or apps used to connect with other people. It is widely used by teenagers and adults throughout the world. Social media is a great tool of communication to connect with family members or friends far away, but it is also perceived negatively. Social media can often be negative in relationships because of lack of communication, unnecessary arguments, and the break up of families. Social media everyone uses it but, it can be a negative. For, example scrolling down newsfeed and one likes a picture in front of their significant other and the significant others sees and doesn't like it they're going to react in a bad way they will cause unnecessary arguments and say why is the picture being liked in the first place and a little thing can escalate quickly and even cause the relationship to end. In an article, the author states how a marriage took a trip to the zoo and both parties called in sick, the husband decided to upload a picture of them being at the zoo and arguments started. In the article, “ 7 Ways Facebook Can Ruin Your Relationship by Brittany Wong” she states how it caused an unnecessary argument. “As she was scrolling Facebook later in the day, she saw that Thomas had posted a photo of them in front of the elephant house. She was enraged! She felt betrayed. He felt like she was overreacting none of her work colleagues (at least not ones who’d care) are even friends on Facebook. Thomas apologized.” This quote basically states how the marriage argued and the wife was really mad due to the fact that the husband shared a picture and it caused an unnecessary argument. In the article, “How to Navigate Social Media Boundaries in a Relationship” by Vanessa Marin she states “But a number of my sessions are filled with stories about the ways that social media interferes with my clients’ relationships: things like snooping in a Facebook account, and then agonizing over what to do with suspicious, but not completely incriminating, activity; or ending a new and promising relationship because the person followed their exes on Instagram.” This quote shows how a sex psychologist talks about how social media is negative in relationships because, it can cause unnecessary arguments.
