Imagine this, every time our thumbs hit a letter projected on our phone screens, some other innocent bystander is injured or possibly killed by an irresponsible driver. This is what the Road Safety Association of Indonesia is presenting with their image. This image is located on an ad website which states the name of the ad is Car and was made by the illustrator Faddy Ravydera, published on October 2014. Within the image, the message given is “Stop Killing While Driving” which replaces the usual phrase “Stop Texting While Driving.” The depiction is clearly meant to persuade the viewer to stray away from any sort of texting and driving, while also upholding to the responsibility that comes with the privilege of driving. Starting with a more focused analysis of the image, a frightened man on a bicycle is being approached by an oncoming car which targets the driving section of texting and driving. While there are other bystanders witnessing the accident that is about to happen. There is fear, worry, and shock within the facial expression of all the people throughout the image. There are workers, a family of 4, a biker, and an elder beggar across the image. With that wide range of social status being displayed in the visual, it shows how anyone is able to be affected by such an accident. Now with a wider analysis of the entire perspective, the image begins to relate to the overall topic of texting and driving by targeting the aspect of texting. The two workers, family, biker, and the elder man appear to be in the shape of letters. More specifically, the main letters of a keyboard -QWERTY- and the oncoming car is represented as a thumb approaching the letter R. When relating both types of outlooks of the image, the combined outlook makes a great impact on the subject of texting and driving and provides a profound message on the topic. Which is additionally supported by the actual message shown in the top left corner stating “Stop Killing While Driving” as stated earlier, which the word “kill” is made red and overlaps the word “text”, in the all black phrase.
