Historically there has been great speculation as to whether Ned Kelly is a hero, villain or victim, but in my opinion there is no dilemma as to determining whether or not Ned Kelly was a hero or villain. The evidence presented shows that Ned Kelly was a villain. Ned Kelly was a thief, a bank robber and a murderer and he got what he deserved, over his short life, he stole hundreds of horses and cattle, robbed two banks and killed three men. An example of these is he set up a horse and cattle theft business; he robbed £4000 from two banks and killed three men at Stringybark Creek. Only a fool would think that Ned was a hero and I will prove this.
In the incident with Wild Wright, Ned was charged with three years hard labour, this kicked off his criminal career of stealing hundreds of horses and cattle. A few years later he set up what he called “Horse and cattle dealing” business which really meant “Horse and cattle theft.” He, his brother Dan, and his mates, Aaron Sherritt and Joe Byrne were all in this well organised scheme. On Tuesday, 10 December 1878 a funeral was taking place in Euroa as well as a hotel-licencing meeting, so the Kelly Gang knew that most townsfolk would be taking part in at least one of these events, so this was the perfect day to rob the bank. The bushrangers dressed handsomely to blend in with the locals and committed the crime. Ned wasn’t happy to have only gotten £2000 but it was enough to get them through to the next robbery.
