Overall I had a great experience at Paul Laurence Dunbar Middle School. The school was ran orderly fashion and definitely focused on student…
One of the most exciting things that have happened in this new semester of school is having the opportunity of attending a service learning class. Personally, I believe that it is important to engage not only in educational programs, but also in service learning courses that will help us grow as service agents and leaders in our communities. Having the opportunity of working hand in hand with the House of Loreto is not only an enrichment opportunity, but also since I am studying Occupational Therapy it helps me to have a deeper understanding of the elderly population which I plan on working with in the future. Working closely with the resident Eileen Miller helped me to have a deeper understanding of the course readings and how the elders…

Capella University School of Social Work is a good fit for my goals because I can pursue my MSW due to the opportunity of the distance learning option. Also the Capella University offers the area of practice I would like to pursue such as Children and Families. I am a true Brevard County native. My school career spanned several elementary schools on Merritt Island and in 1986 I landed in Rockledge to attend Kennedy Middle School. I’m a 1992 “Rock” Alumnus. Rockledge High is home to several of my classmates who fulfilled the mission of teaching our youth. Following high school, I entered the Marine Corps and found myself traveling the world for the next 8 years.…
The face of a little boy, bright eyed, innocent, and full of energy popped through an empty window shouting out “what y’all doing in there?” and it was at this moment that Josh Whitlock’s life changed forever. On a mission to bring light to a neighborhood with a history of so much darkness, Josh Whitlock, along with a group of dedicated and committed members of his church were working diligently to restore a building in one of the worst neighborhoods in Columbia Marvin was his name, a native to “The Gates” neighborhood, about 5 years old, made a pitstop to see who these foreign people were in his “hood”. Marvin continued to stop by day after day with a crowd to check up, check in, and oversee the progress. “It wasn’t long before I knew their…
As concerned parents of students, at Legacy Traditional School of Maricopa, this letter is to inform you that our tolerance for the disorganization and lack of discipline that has occurred in Legacy Maricopa is officially depleted. While Legacy School continues to grow, leadership at the Maricopa Campus has failed over the last few years to make good on the promise stated in the school Philosophy and mission statement "Legacy Traditional School mission is to provide motivated students with the opportunity to achieve academic excellence in an accelerated, back-to-basics, safe learning environment taught by caring, knowledgeable and highly effective educators in cooperation with supportive, involved parents." This statement is the reason…

Childcare Director Interview (My answers for these were taken from both past conversations I have had with the director as well as my cooperating teacher since the director was gone recently due to a family issue out of state. I saw here very briefly on my last day for the first time in a while and because she was in the middle of something I only got to thank her for letting me be there this semester before I left. So, I am focusing mostly on the program’s newly expanding private school named Legacy Christian Academy which the kindergarten class I was with falls under because that’s where I was able to get most of my information.)…
I have attended Jefferson R-VII school district since Preschool and my experience, from my knowledge then, was great. However, when I attended Principia’s Big Bash and helped the senior class president try and break the Guinness World Record for most people to pass through a hula-hoop and I saw on what I was missing out on. From random people I’ve never met before walking up to me and my family and introducing themselves, to all the fun activities Big Bash had to offer. Seeing all this, I was excited to meet up with Mrs. Fox and tour the school. I saw how hands on the school is and how connected the teachers are to their students, and how Christian Science is the one thing everyone attending the school has in common.…
Keeping the Wraparound Coordinator is extremely important in schools like Union Hill because of their high level of English Language Learners. In 2016, 52.6% of the student body was found to not speak English as their first language and 49.2% of the school are English Language Learners (Appendix C). This lack of understanding of the English language is one of the most urgent issues in the school that needs to be addressed. Currently there are 3 teachers who work specifically with ELL students (Appendix C). When almost half of the student body are English Language Learners, there should be more teachers who are working to help these students assimilate to the school climate and language.…

According to Community Impact, a local newspaper, “The 11 zip codes that make up the general Cy-Fair area have seen an increase in ethnic and income diversity throughout the past decade.”…
