How much do you know about the professional sports organizations in the United States? The two most popular are the NBA (National Basketball Association) and the NFL (National Football League). Millions of American people watch basketball and football games through these programs annually and the athlete’s salary reflects this. However, the NBA and NFL have different systems of organizations. Both important aspects of American culture, the NBA and the NFL also have many differences in the way that they are run. One fundamental aspect of the NFL and NBA that can be contrasted easily is the method in which the players are drafted into the league. If a player wishes to be drafted into the NBA, they must have one year of experience outside of high school, usually meaning they play one year of college basketball and then leave. To be eligible for the NFL draft, one must have been out of high school three years. The draft itself is also different …show more content…
The NBA organizes their 30 teams into 6 divisions, whereas the NFL groups their 32 teams into 8 divisions. Regarding arranging seasons and playoffs, a large distinction can be seen. The NBA season starts in October and runs all the way to June, making a long 82 game regular season and then the playoffs, players often playing around three games per week. In the NFL, the season starts in September and runs until February, assembling a 16 game regular season and playoffs where players only play one game a week. The playoff system can also be contrasted. The NBA created a system of playoffs where teams are seeded and play a best-out-of-seven series with their corresponding team until there is a champion in the Finals.
