This study will use a qualitative phenomenological approach to seek the understanding of how the Navy suicide prevention training might be more effective if it included modules for different levels of leadership. The phenomenological approach was chosen for this study because it can be used to describe the essence of a phenomenon through the human, lived experiences of participants related to that event (Creswell, 2009). When research variable are unknown, and there is inadequate literature available, a qualitative method is appropriate (Creswell, 2007).
