But the movement and doctor King would not be intimidated and with the help of federal troops by order of LBJ they marched through the most dangerous area in the south and went to its capital, montgomery, Alabama. This success led to the cause of various other marches and eventually LBJ was able to successfully push through the voting rights act of 1965. This act prohibits racial discrimination in voting and with it MLK accomplished two of his goals. With the act passing it became a major success and showed immensely two years later when they saw how the massive increase in voter registration in blacks as German Lopez states in his article on voting rights “ ...black voter registration rates in Mississippi increased from a mere 6.7 percent in 1965 to 59.8 percent in 1967…”(German Lopez, 2015). This left the biggest goal of the movement left to accomplish, true equality, and it would be a goal that would take MLK until his death to fight for and even then…

Many people presume that courage is simply a person who accomplishes a grand feat rather than having the quality of mind that enables a person to face difficulty or danger without fear. However, true courage depends on the eyes of the beholder. Courage is many things. Slyly embodied in both reticent and vital characters, Harper Lee in To Kill a Mockingbird and Reginald Rose in 12 Angry Men both create a broad representation of courage. In both works of literature, the idea of courage that is being conveyed is the ability to do something that one knows is right or gracious, even though it is extremely difficult.…

In the novel, Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, the setting affects the story and characters in various different ways . As I was reading through the novel, I noticed so many pieces of text related to “separate but equal”, and the terrible acts that were done to black citizens in the South as a result of racism, and very deep racial feelings towards African-Americans. For example, in the text on page. 15, it states, “Sitting so close to the desk, I could see that the covers of the books, a motley red, were badly worn and the grey edges of the book were marred by pencils, crayons and ink. My anticipation at having my own book dubbed to a sinking disappointment.”.…
