I was an angry, confused, very sad ten year old who did not realize how a marriage between two people who had loved each other for seventeen years could just fall apart. Then I found out: my dad had cheated on my mom, had been for several years. I do not believe I have to explain how much this hurt my mom (I honestly do not think I could), and as a young kid whose mom had always been there for him, I wanted to do everything I could to help make her happy. The most important thing she ever said to me is, “tell the truth, no matter if it hurts you or not.” This experience made me realize that not only is being honest the right moral thing to do, my words also affect others.
