In the story From the Navajo Origin Legend, it tells us that the story takes place way back.
On the twelfth day the people would wash themselves then dry themselves in cornmeal. Men & women did it in different colors. After they did that, they claimed to hear a distant call from an approaching god. After that the men would carry a buck’s skin. They had it to the west, this was the only direction they would face it in. After a couple of minutes or two they would hear the wind blow. They believed this symbolized life because it was wind that they blew out of their mouth. The pair created the “the first man and first wife”, then the gods said to them “live together now as husband and wife”.
