Different professions such as speech-language pathologists to developmental psychologists have discussed the topic of whether nature or nurture aid in the process of development. Nature includes the characteristics that were inherited from our biological parents; it includes the genes and any other biological features we receive. The topic of nature supplements nativists’ view by highlighting that the development of language comes instinctively. Nativists theorize that language is similar to a light switch and just needs to be “switched on”. Nurture is defined as the interaction between the child and his environment.
