Nature vs Nurture debate is one of the oldest arguments in the history of psychology. There have been many difference of opinion for many centuries about whether nature or nurture has a stronger effect on infants and toddler development from researchers. Jean Piaget who developed the theory of cognitive development believe that just organisms adapt to their own environment at their physical level. Theorist John B. Watson believed that individuals could be taught to do and come to be whatever they want to be, regardless of their inherited experience. Many other theorists implicit that children turn out to be whatever their environment shapes them to become. Nativists argues that the characteristics of an individual as a whole are a product evolution, and that individual differences are due to each person’s unique genetic code. Characteristics and differences that are not seen at birth, but will emerge later in their life, are looked at as the product of maturation. It is stated that “From this point of view (Nurture) psychological characteristics and behavioural differences that emerge through infancy and childhood are the result of learning. The child's experiences are the stimulation that sparks the activity between axons and dendrites and creates synapses” (Sara Gable,2001). Therefore, we can say that nature partner is nurture, the environment surroundings that influence infants and toddler’s development. Babies understandings in their environment will affect all aspects of their being, from their healthiness to the interest of their minds.
