Now revisiting the quote at the start of this paper, in my opinion, speaks loudly here. In a study ran by Elliot Tucker-Drob, PhD, and colleagues from the University of Texas at Austin concluded "growing up poor can supress a child's cognative potential, depite of genetics". 3 The results of fraternal and identical twins studies, concluded the same; "that genetic similarity was unrelated to similarities in cognitive ability. Instead, their environments determine their cognitive success". 3
As far as parenting goes; babies and children learn skills and behaviors, which isn't always a good thing, from intimdation, Research has shown links between "parental alcoholism, drug use, and verbal or physical abuse and the same destructive behavior cropping up in their children" [source: Stephens]. The ame was established with smolking cigarettes. The University of Washington's Seattle Social Development Project published in 2005 found that "Kids are twice as likely to pick up a tobacco habit if their parents smoked."
